Easter Sock Bunny

This year I decided I wanted to make Cindy's Easter bunny.  Ha!  What was I thinking?!  How could I forget how much I hate hand sewing.  Now don't be turned off by my funky little bunny,  the one in the actual tutorial is so cute!  If you like to hand sew and are good at it, then this is the project for you!  HERE is the tutorial and she does an awesome job giving step by step instructions.  He doesn't look too bad, but the wife I was going to make him is so out of the question!  

Now the tutorial bunny only uses one sock but I wanted him to have a longer body so I used two.  His face and head also aren't as huge as the original.  Not to mention I completely failed at trying to embroider his nose.   I just couldn't do it to look nice so I ended up just painting it on with some fabric paint.    

Since little hands will be playing with this bunny I went ahead and covered up the bottom with felt.  I didn't want her to try to pick off any of the stitching.  I also added a bag of rice to his bottom before sewing him closed so he could sit on his own.

I do have to admit, his little bunny tail is pretty darn cute!! 

So if you are up for the challenge, get to it and make a sock bunny.  I have a feeling my Boo Bear will love this little guy.  

Lace Cowl

Today I will be sharing this cowl that I saw on Pinterest that inspired me...

As this cowl was very pretty and beautifully made by Sweet Verbena, this specific tutorial had the cowl attached to the tee. I wasn’t sure I wanted to commit a specific cowl to a tee. I like flexibility and I mix match quite a bit, so I took the concept of a lace cowl and ran with it and made it my own. So here we go...

Step 1: Look for lace.

I have quite a bit of white lace on hand but wanted one with a little pop… So I dove into my big box of fabric scraps (basically a collection of clothes that have stains that wouldn’t come off or a rip that wasn’t worth repairing). Then I found this…

This skirt had a rip that wouldn't be able to be repaired for me to wear as a skirt anymore.

Step 2: Seam Ripper (not Grim Reaper)

This skirt had a lining and a zipper, so I had to remove it...

Step 3: Stitch it up!

Once the lining and the zipper was removed I sewed together the slits where the zipper was and the other slit the skirt had. I also sewed together the waist. It had a black ribbon, I left it so that it could hold the lace together and also work as a weight since that will be the (hidden) neckline of the cowl.

Step 4: Tada!

All done! Now I just have to wear it around my neck! I needed to arrange it to where that black ribbon is indeed hidden. The skirt had scallops at the bottom and so I like to arrange the cowl to show off that elegant detail.

I hope you all enjoyed this little tutorial as much as I did. It took no more than 30 minutes (because I had to remove the lining and the zipper). But it you use regular lace (that isn't re-purposed), it should be a lot quicker to make! I love how it turned out... Copper... and airy (perfect for the summer)!

Meet My Dear Friend Danielle

I am super pooper excited to tell you my friend Danielle is going to be guest writing here at Make it Cozee.  HOORAY!  We were both Education majors at Biola, reconnected via Instagram, and are now teaming up to share our love for crafting with you.  So let me stop jabbering so you can meet her.  

Hello, I’m Dannielle Rivera and I am a craftaholic! For as far as I can remember I have always been artsy and crafty. Along with being crafty I also love to cook and bake. So getting married was a dream come true because I was able to put these hobbies into practice in homemaking! Thankfully my husband of 2 ½ years (and counting) is very patient with all my messes!

I was once a teacher and continue to aspire to become one (someday). As life happens, my career is taking a slight detour as I have been along side my husband in his pursuits in his career. We have moved 4 times in 2 ½ years (and no, my husband is not in the military). Currently I am unemployed but have taken on a little endeavor of starting a small business called Quite Dainty. This business satisfies my hobby of baking as Quite Dainty services special events with cake pops, mini bundt cakes and various treats assembled as party favors or a full fledged dessert bar. Now to satisfy my crafting, cooking , and homemaking cravings, Patty has been so gracious to allow me to contribute from time to time.

Tutorial: Very Hungry Caterpillar Party Dress

I know it's been a long time coming but here is the tutorial for the dress I made for Boo Bear for her birthday party.  The easier version of this dress is HERE. Just a disclaimer, I am not a professional seamstress but self taught.  Most of the time I just wing it so there isn't a formal pattern and it isn't perfect. This will give you a good idea on how to make the dress.   With that said, isn't it just darling!  It's the same style as her Dr. Seuss dress from last year.

Okay, lets get started.  I used a shirt of hers to get an idea of how big and wide to make the top.  You can give yourself lots of room because it will be smaller once the elastic gets put in.  The top portion of the dress looks like this.   You will need two pieces.  You can zigzag the edges if you would like.

Now the sleeves are just long rectangles.  You want the width of the sleeves to match the width of the arm hole on the main body piece.  You are going to fold over the bottom portion of the sleeve and sew to create a casing.  String thin elastic through, pull so it scrunches and sew it shut on both ends.  Do that for both sleeves.  The last pictures shows how it is attached onto the main body of the dress.

 
Now you will create a casing all around the top portion of the dress where the arrow is pointing just like you did with the bottom of the sleeve.  Run elastic through, scrunch it up, and sew it closed.  Afterwards, sew down the sides of the dress.  The second picture shows how it looks afterwards.

Now the bottom portion is a circle skirt.  Not only is it easier to sew on but it gives the bottom a lot of body, borderline Toddlers and Tiaras.  You can find the tutorial of how to cut the circle skirt HERE.  In the second picture you will see the ruffle I created and sewed to the bottom of the skirt.  Not only does it look cute, but I avoided the pain of sewing the hem.

This step was a little hard to photograph but to attach the skirt, you will keep the main body and the skirt both inside out.  When you look under the skirt both the top and the skirt should be right sides together.

Pin and sew the two pieces together all along the top of the skirt. 

Turn it right side out and you have this.

Now you can leave the dress just like this, but I like for the waist to fit her snug.  To do so you need to create a casing at the waist.  I took a long strip of fabric, pinned and sewed it to the waist part of the dress.  Where the two ends of the strip meet there is an opening.  You can see the black elastic is going in.  Run the elastic all the way around, scrunch it, sew the two end pieces together, and sew the opening shut by doing a running stitch from top to bottom.   The black elastic is for demonstration purposes though it wouldn't matter because the sash covers it up.

Add a sash for the waist and a caterpillar on the side and before you know it, you have a party dress!

I added some accessories of course.  I made bows for her hair, tutorial HERE and the pettiskirt I bought on amazon for $15!  Such a steal.

The dress also looks really cute without the pettiskirt, but I love a full skirt.  Put it on the birthday girl and it is cuteness overload.

I know this tutorial isn't as detailed as my other ones but like I said, I kind of make it up as I go.  And sorry for some of the picture quality, I was doing some of the sewing at night.  If you have any questions please feel free to email me and I will help to the best of my ability.
