The red letters is a weekly study that walks through the life of Jesus in chronological order. This was birthed from a desire in my heart to transition my kids from their story book Bible to what we endearingly call the "big" Bible. There is nothing fancy about how we read, meditate, and study the word but this weekly study has become a time we cherish. I invite you to join us, use the the guide and make it your own as we dig deeper into the word.
Getting Started
This is your time, so make it your own.
Make a commitment to the day and time you plan to sit down to read and study together. If you don't make it a priority and plan for it, then it won't happen.
The time that works best for us is Monday afternoon.
Set the ground rules.
This is a no phone, have your Bible ready, sit at the table, draw on the white board, take turns
reading, ask lots of questions time.
Study before you teach.
If you are doing this with your kids, it's a good idea to read the small section, think of questions
you could ask, picture what was happening in histocial context, and make connections to other
parts of the Bible before you do it together. The best teachers are students first.
Try to be consistent in how you format the time.
We start by singing a hymn, each person reads 2-3 verses, we talk about what is happening as we
read. I write the key highlights of what is happening on the white board. During this time there
are question, discussions, connections. We end with how this applies to our life, relationships, and
or the gospel. The kids write their application on the board. We end with prayer.
Sometimes I'll plan for a visual, an activity, or we will watch a short video.
