Making a Holiday a Holy Day

Sunday, February 14, 2021

I LOVE holidays and any form of celebration.  This year however God has been calling me to take these celebrations a little deeper.  The only way I can describe is making holidays holy days.

What is a holy day?

A holy day is a day dedicarted to religious observances or religious festeivals.

In my own words, it's a day where we remember God, acknowledge who he is, and welcome his presence through the celebration.  The purpose of feast and celebrations were to teach historical, spiritual, and prophetic concepts to the next generation.  Rituals were an outward expression of what was happening inward.

All of me wants to bring this flavor back to holidays!

I started with Valentines Day.  God walked me thorugh this little reflection time and I wrote it out to share with my kiddos.  I hope you're able to use it as well.  You can download the PDF from TPT HERE or from Google Drive HERE.

Favorite Bread Recipes

If you're hanging out with me on Instagram, you know that I have fallen in love with sourdough.  With help from friends our family has had the pleasure of carb loading the last few weeks.  As I try out recipes I will compile for you a list of my favorites (and tips at the end).  Click on the title or pictures to go to the recipes.

Sourdough Cinnamon Rolls

I use 4 tbsp of butter and regular iccing.  I find the cream cheese iccing makes it too tangy for me.

Cinnamon Roll Muffin Technique

Sourdough English Muffins

Pizza Dough 1

Easier to handle.  These are also great for calzones.

Pizza Dough 2

The one I prefer.

Tips:

1.  Start small.  When I first got my starter I tried making an artisan loaf (which is NOT at all easy).  It's hard to put so much time into something and then FAIL.  I suggest starting small; pancakes, english muffins, and evena sandwich loaf.

2.  If you fail, don't quit.  Keep trying and the best way that I have found to learn is watching someone you know either through facetime or in person.

3.  Feed your starter with warm water.
